Hammock tarp – essential protection against rain, wind and sun.

The tarp/awning is designed specifically for Need For Trees hammocks. I couldn’t find the right length tarp anywhere, so I made it myself. It is a high quality tarp with a strong and rainproof material. It is also extremely lightweight.

Why choose a need.for.trees hammock tarp?

Most tarps on the market are made from silNylon fabric. The tarps I make are made from silPoly fabric. This might not mean much to you, so let me explain. These two materials are quite similar: both are coated with a silicone layer (a micro-thin layer you wouldn’t even notice), both are used in camping gear for rain protection, and both are very lightweight and durable. However, there is one key difference.

  • SilNylon absorbs water, while silPoly repels it. When silNylon gets wet, it becomes damp on the inside, which means you or your hammock gear might end up getting wet. Additionally, when the fabric absorbs moisture or the temperature drops, silNylon stretches. So, even if you set up your tarp perfectly in the evening, by morning, it will have sagged, leaving you with a droopy tarp instead of a tight, protective cover.

What makes the need.for.trees hammock tarp better than others?

There aren’t many miracles in tarps, because a tarp needs to be as minimalist as possible, without unnecessary seams, pockets, and so on. With each stitch, the fabric weakens, so my tarp is designed to be as simple as possible. However, in one aspect, I believe the “Shako” beats many other tarps its simple suspension system. Most tarps have a suspension system that can’t be easily detached from the tarp; it’s simply tied to the connection points. This causes a lot of problems when camping, especially when there’s no time to neatly tie up all the ropes and you quickly pack the tarp. Later, when trying to set it up again, you see the ropes have tangled, and then comes the hassle of spending 10 minutes trying to untangle a Gordian knot. My suspension system is completely detachable from the tarp, making it much easier to quickly unhook the tarp, roll up the ropes, and pack everything away in your backpack.

Daug kartų jau naudotas, atrodo kaip naujas. Lengvutis.

Superinis gaminys!

I love the tarp. Many people say to chosse two of the following : low price, high quality, low weight. You can’t get all three.

But here I think we are pretty close ro the holy trinity of ultralight. Really nice quality without the extremely slippery feeling silicone coated fabrics sometimes have. Easy set-up and nice, even, stitching. Absolutely nothing to complain about.

Size is great, this will do the job at least10 months of the year in Stockholm.
