Description
Unique hammock insulation (underquilt) that really works.
A tested and perfected underquilt, unlocking a new level of hammock comfort.
People usually think of using a sleeping pad to get a warmer sleep in a hammock, but under quilt offers much more comfort and the ability to move around freely without getting cold. In fact, there’s no comparison – sleeping with underquilt wins on all counts (more details below).
„ThermaClew“ is possibly the only underquilt on the market with a special Clew Suspension technology, which tenses the underquilt evenly and ensures that no part of the body goes cold, even if you’re rolling in a hammock like Rikis in the bed after two days in the woods.
For those purchasing underquilt – a Need for Trees compression bag is included as a gift.

Why is a hammock underquilt better than a sleeping pad?
I myself, like many people, didn’t even know what a hammock underquilt was before, but the first time I slept with an underquilt, I understood why hammocks are praised for their comfort. Now I even envy those who have not tried sleeping with an underquilt, because that first comfortable hammock sleep is the best. The main reason why an underquilt is better than any sleeping mat, whether it is an inflatable sleeping pad or a simple rubber mat, is comfort. And comfort consists of the following aspects:
1. More effective thermal insulation
• The mat in a hammock often does not cover the entire body surface, leaving the sides exposed to the cold, especially the shoulder area. The underquilt covers the entire outer surface of the hammock, ensuring that the body is protected from the cold on all sides.
2. Stability
• Mats tend to move or slip when you start rolling around in the hammock. The Underquilt has 4 extra attachment points (on each corner) that attach to the hammock so the padding never slips.
3. Ventilation and moisture control
• Mats often trap moisture and sweat between the body and the surface of the mat, and if you sleep in sub-zero temperatures, condensation builds up between the layers. Underquilts allow air to circulate and do not have large temperature differences and therefore do not accumulate condensation.
4. Space and freedom
• The sleeping pad limits the space in the hammock and can feel cramped. An underquilt does not interfere with the inside of the hammock, so you have more space to get comfortable.
Why is „ThermaClew“ superior to other underquilts or sleeping pads?
I have tested numerous underquilts in my time, and while they all seemed fine at first, every single one left my ass freezing at night. No matter what I tried — even placing a small mat under myself — something was always off. Determined to solve this problem, I set out on a mission, and when I finally found the solution, I created the ThermaClew.
The issue with other underquilts was simple: their suspension systems just didn’t work as they should. Every underquilt I tested relied on the same flawed design — either one or two suspension ropes, with width adjustments made using shock cord. But when lying in a hammock, there was always an air gap underneath, allowing heat to escape and cold air to creep in.
ThermaClew solves this with an innovative suspension system that ensures 100% uniform tensioning of the underquilt, no matter your sleeping position. Unlike traditional designs, ThermaClew is suspended using eight elastic bands, evenly distributing tension across the underquilt. The result? Maximum comfort, superior warmth, and a cozy hammock experience — even on the coldest nights.
Why Climashield® APEX?
It warms even when wet – incomparably better than down in wet conditions.
Easy care – can be washed without hassle.
Environmentally friendly – free from animal-based materials.
Durable – doesn’t compress and maintains thermal insulation longer.
Suitable for a wide range of weather conditions – stable performance in both cold and wet conditions.
For maximum comfort, I would also suggest buying a need.for.trees quilt (an alternative to a sleeping bag) for the hammock.
Due to the special hanging system, the underquilt is only available for Need For Trees hammocks, but customization is possible, contact info@needfortrees.lt
