Lightweight/ultralight quilt with Climashield® APEX insulation
The most versatile heat solution for any trip. Each quilt is sewn to individual measurements. With every quilt purchase, a Need for Trees compression sack is included as a gift.
Features:
• With Climashield® APEX synthetic fill, which provides excellent warmth even in high humidity.
• The quilt is lightweight and durable. Made of strong and lightweight 20D nylon, this quilt weighs just 600-700 grams (depending on measurements). Perfect for travelers who want to keep the weight in their backpack as low as possible.
• The Quilt has neither a zipper nor a hood (as you might find in a regular sleeping bag). The quilt is surrounded by an elastic cord that runs across the back and around the neck, helping the quilt to maintain a snug fit and protect against the cold.
• Extended leg-back seam. Normally, quilts come with a seam that ends at the butt. This didn’t work for me because my hips were freezing, so I decided to sew the quilts with an extended seam to provide extra warmth above the hips.
As the quilt is made to your individual measurements (please specify your height in the order notes), sewing time 5-7 days
Why choose a quilt over a sleeping bag?
Two main arguments:
1. WEIGHT. Sleeping bags are usually heavy, with a hood, a zipper (which lets the cold in) and extra material in the back, which is, by the way, unnecessary. Why? The insulation in the back stays compressed when lying in the hammock (or on the ground) and loses all its thermal insulation properties (which makes your back cold). Removing it can save significant weight and volume, which are important considerations for travelers or nature lovers.
2. COMFORT. Normally, it’s quite difficult to get into a sleeping bag in a hammock. The Quilt solves this problem – you can slip into the quilt smoothly and effortlessly and be ready for a warm rest. Another important point: the open back gives you more room to move, so you don’t feel cramped and can rest comfortably.
Why Climashield® APEX instead of down?
1. Moisture resistance
• Down loses its insulating properties when it gets wet, while Climashield® APEX retains heat even in humid environments. This is particularly important for hikers or campers when it can be difficult to avoid moisture.
2. Easier maintenance
• APEX is easier to maintain: you can wash it without risk and without fear of material deterioration. Down, on the other hand, requires a delicate washing and drying process.
3. Animal Welfare
• The choice of synthetic insulation is often made by people who are concerned about ethical aspects, as down is an animal product.
4. Versatility
• APEX is better suited to a wide range of weather conditions. Down insulates well in dry and cold conditions, but becomes ineffective in wet conditions.
5. Price
• APEX is usually cheaper than high quality down, especially when it comes to larger products.
6. Durability
• APEX fill retains its shape and thermal insulation properties for longer than down, which can compress or lose effectiveness over time.
For maximum comfort, I would also suggest purchasing a need.for.trees underquilt (an alternative to a sleeping pad) for the hammock.
