Construction
- Climashield® APEX continuous-filament synthetic insulation
- 20D lightweight nylon shell
- No zipper, no hood
- Elastic adjustment around shoulders and back
- Extended leg-back seam for improved hip insulation
The extended seam design reduces cold spots around the hips and upper legs — a common issue in many standard quilt constructions.
Why Use a Top Quilt?
When sleeping in a hammock, insulation beneath your body becomes compressed and loses effectiveness.
A top quilt removes unnecessary back insulation, reducing weight and packed volume while maintaining warmth where it matters.
The open design also allows easier entry and greater freedom of movement compared to a traditional sleeping bag.

My experience with the Top Quilt (APEX 200 version with a sewn footbox) has been excellent. It feels really cozy even at near-zero temperatures (although I haven’t tested its limits yet), is very well made, and cleverly constructed.
The size is more than adequate for me (190 cm, 90 kg). Please note that, as is typical for APEX 200, the packed quilt is rather bulky, but the weight is quite reasonable. The compression sack certainly helps when backpack space is limited. Furthermore, this synthetic filling is robust and resilient.
This is probably one of the best synthetic options available, especially at such a reasonable price. I strongly recommend it!
