Silpoly fabric

Water-repellent, premium-quality fabric – SIL/SIL 20D silpoly.
Unlike silnylon, silpoly fabric does not absorb water and does not stretch when wet.

There are situations, for example, when it’s raining heavily outside and a storm hits. The tarp catches the wind and may touch the hammock. If you have a silnylon tarp, it can let moisture through on contact and your hammock may get wet. Additionally, wet silnylon stretches, which can make it touch the hammock even more.

There are also versions with a SIL/PU surface, but PU wears out quickly, does not withstand high or low temperatures, and peels off. I do not recommend it at all.

Because of these qualities, silpoly fabric is one of the most valued and popular among hammock enthusiasts – it is lightweight, durable, and reliable in all weather conditions.

Durability

The fabric is strong and looks like new even after many uses.
To keep the tarp in the best condition, proper care is required – always dry it after use and do not leave it in the sun when not in use.

Tarp usage

A few tips for properly setting up the tarp:

• Set up the tarp so that the wind blows against the walls.
• If it’s very windy outside, hang the tarp as low as possible and at a sharper angle to better protect against the wind.
• Make sure the ridge line is properly tensioned and forms a straight line.
• Do not overtighten the corners; tension them enough so the tarp is taut but the ridge line does not bend (minimal deviation is fine).
• If you want more space under the tarp, lengthen the corner lines — this will stretch the tarp over a wider perimeter.
• It’s not necessary to anchor the lines to the ground; you can also use surrounding bushes or trees.
• Pitch the tarp so the hammock ridgeline doesn’t press against the tarp’s ridgeline, this prevents water from seeping through.
